Dr. Qaali Hussein is a double board-certified trauma and acute care surgeon and surgical intensivist with a compelling mission to integrate excellence in medicine, leadership, and personal purpose. She trained at Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Texas Medical Branch, completed general surgery residency and a fellowship in surgical critical care, and now practices at HonorHealth in Arizona, among other institutions. Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Hussein is the founder of Defiance Academy, through which she mentors and coaches professional women—especially women of color and Muslim women—to thrive in demanding careers without compromising their faith, family, or well-being. She is also a mother of six, balancing the challenges of a demanding surgical career with family life, and frequently speaks on leadership, resilience, and purpose.
